Our verdict

AccuQuote holds an A+ BBB rating with very few complaints. The big change is ownership. Abacus Global Management, a public life settlement and asset management company, acquired it in August 2025 by taking over a roughly $9.3 million loan AccuQuote had defaulted on. It works well if you want an agent to shop term or whole life for you; if you want to compare prices yourself online, other marketplaces show more up front.

AccuQuote, step by step

  1. Fill out the form

You answer a short online form about your age, health and the coverage you want, which AccuQuote says takes about two minutes.

  2. Talk to an agent

A licensed agent calls to review your needs and compare carriers. Expect phone calls; this is an agent-led service, not a self-serve quote site.

  3. Apply with the chosen carrier

The agent helps you complete the application. Many policies require a medical exam or health records; no-exam options are available.

  4. Underwriting and approval

The carrier decides your final rate. AccuQuote says a traditional application takes about 3 to 8 weeks on average; no-exam policies can be faster.

  5. Policy in force

Coverage starts once you accept the policy and pay the first premium. After that, billing, changes and claims go through the carrier.

AccuQuote legitimacy and licensing

Yes. AccuQuote is a real life insurance agency that has been selling policies for decades. The BBB rates AccuQuote, Inc. A+, it has been accredited since June 2, 2003, and its profile shows only a handful of complaints. AccuQuote does not issue policies itself; the carrier you choose, such as Prudential, Protective or Banner Life, underwrites the policy and pays claims.

Two details have changed since many reviews were written. The company now lists a Schaumburg, Illinois address with the BBB, and it is no longer independent: Abacus Global Management owns it (see below). Before you apply, you can confirm the agent’s license with your state insurance department or the NIPR producer lookup.

Who owns AccuQuote now?

AccuQuote’s website says it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Abacus Global Management, Inc. According to Abacus’s 2025 annual report filed with the SEC, Abacus acquired 100% of Life Distributors, LLC (AccuQuote) on August 14, 2025. Instead of paying cash, Abacus used an approximately $9.3 million note receivable from AccuQuote as the consideration after AccuQuote defaulted on that note. Abacus announced the deal publicly on October 6, 2025.

Abacus’s main business is life settlements: buying existing life insurance policies from policyholders and managing them as investments. That does not change how a new policy you buy through AccuQuote works, since the carrier issues and services it. It does explain why the parent company may later offer you policy valuation or settlement services.

What AccuQuote costs

AccuQuote does not publish a fee for its service. Like most life insurance agencies, it is paid a commission by the carrier when you buy a policy. Life insurance premiums are filed by each carrier, so the same policy generally costs the same whether you buy through an agency or another channel.

Your price depends on age, health, tobacco use, coverage amount, term length and the carrier’s underwriting. AccuQuote’s site says customers have saved up to 70% by comparing; that is the company’s own claim, so treat any quote as a starting point and compare it with at least one other source.

What customers say about AccuQuote

Recurring themes across the review sites and complaint records listed above, not individual quotes.

Common praise

  • Agents explain options in plain language and handle the paperwork
  • Easy, quick process for straightforward term policies
  • Many carriers compared in one place

Common complaints

  • Repeated sales calls after requesting a quote
  • Slow policy processing and long underwriting waits
  • Customer service follow-up during the application

How AccuQuote works

You start with a short form, then a licensed agent calls to go over your needs and compare carriers. The agent helps you apply, schedules any medical exam and follows the file through underwriting. AccuQuote says the traditional process takes about 3 to 8 weeks on average, while no-exam policies can produce a decision much faster.

Products include term, whole, universal and indexed universal life, no-medical-exam life, final expense, disability and accidental death coverage. Once a policy is issued, the carrier handles billing, policy changes and claims.

Complaints and how to avoid problems

There are few public complaints about AccuQuote. The recurring themes in BBB and Trustpilot reviews are repeated sales calls, slow processing and follow-up problems during the application.

  • Give only the phone number you want called, and ask the agent to note your preferred contact times.
  • Ask which carrier each quote is from and its A.M. Best rating.
  • Do not cancel an existing policy until the new one is approved and in force.
  • Answer health questions completely; mistakes can lead to a denied claim later.
  • If something goes wrong, complain to your state insurance department, which licenses agents.

Rules that protect life insurance buyers

Life insurance agents and carriers are licensed and regulated by each state’s insurance department. Most states give you a free look period after a policy is delivered, typically at least 10 days, during which you can cancel for a full refund of premiums; check your policy for the exact period. If an agent recommends replacing an existing policy, state replacement rules generally require written disclosures, so ask for them and compare surrender charges and new contestability periods before switching.
