Coverage

We cover services and products that people compare before they commit money or personal information: tax relief, debt relief, credit repair, loans, savings and credit cards, insurance, home security and home services, hearing aids and other health products, software and consumer tech. Each category has a buyer’s guide that ranks the companies we have researched, a review of each company, and articles that explain the decision.

Revenue

Some of the companies we write about pay BestGuide when you click a link, call a phone number, request a quote or submit a form through our site, or when you buy something after visiting their site from ours. Where a paid link appears, the company is labeled “BestGuide Partner.” Payment affects which companies have a paid “Get started” button and which companies appear in clearly labeled featured spots. Verified partners are scored on our partner verification program and can be listed first in a ranking, and payment never changes what a review says about a company’s fees, terms, complaints or regulatory record. Research method

Pages are built from primary sources: each company’s own website, disclosures and contracts, plus regulators and public records such as the FTC, CFPB, SEC, FDIC, state attorneys general, state insurance departments, AM Best, the Better Business Bureau and court records. Prices, fees and rates are shown with the date we checked them. If a company does not publish a fact, the page says so instead of guessing. When a company closes, changes hands, issues a recall or faces a major regulatory action, the page carries a status banner that explains what happened. Each buyer’s guide lists its sources.

Ratings work two ways while we move every category to one method. Tax relief companies are scored on six published factors with published weights. Companies in other categories carry an editorial rating from our pre-2026 method, which weighs reputation, services, transparency, customer satisfaction and scale. Details are on how we rate.

People

BestGuide is researched and written by journalists and writers who each cover specific categories. Every piece carries the byline of the person who wrote it, and bylines stay on that work after a writer moves on. Pages without a named author are credited to the BestGuide Editorial Team. Profiles and everything each person has written are on our authors page.

Editorial independence

Companies do not see or approve pages before publication. No company can pay to change the facts in a review or to remove negative information. Verified partners can be listed first in a ranking and are always labeled, as explained in our advertising disclosure. Partners and non-partners are researched from the same sources and described the same way.

Corrections

If you find an error, email [email protected] with “Correction” in the subject line, the page address, the sentence in question and the source that shows the correct fact. We check the claim against the source, fix the page, and update its “last updated” date. For a material correction, we add a note on the page that says what changed. We aim to respond within five business days.

Updates

Every page shows the date it was last updated, and facts that change often (prices, fees, rates) show the date they were checked. We re-check a page when a company changes its fees or terms, closes, changes hands or faces an enforcement action, and when a reader reports an error.
