Hims Review: Wegovy, Finasteride & Men’s Health

Hims is a real telehealth company, but the FTC sued it in July 2026 over billing, cancellation and health data sharing, and the BBB now shows it as not rated. Weight loss costs $149 a month plus medication.

Our verdict

Hims is a legitimate, publicly traded telehealth company whose licensed providers prescribe hair loss, ED, mental health and weight loss medicines online. The tradeoff is cost and billing: weight loss needs a $149 monthly membership on top of medication, many hair and ED products are compounded formulas the FDA has not approved, and the FTC, Utah and Los Angeles County sued Hims in July 2026 alleging hidden charges and hard cancellations. If you use it, read the checkout screen carefully, note your renewal date and cancel at least two days before it.

hims, step by step

  1. Online intake

You pick a condition and answer a medical questionnaire. For weight loss you also join the membership at $39 for the first month.

  2. Provider review

A licensed provider reviews your answers and may message you. The FTC alleges Hims charges for prescriptions almost immediately after intake, so check what you are agreeing to before you submit.

  3. Prescription and shipping

If prescribed, medication ships from a partner pharmacy. Some weight loss prescriptions go to Gifthealth, a separate pharmacy that bills you and handles its own refunds and cancellations.

  4. Automatic refills

Products are sold as subscriptions that renew automatically. Hims may charge your first renewal early and later renewals up to two days early.

  5. Cancel before renewal

Cancel in the app or account under My Subscriptions, through the Help Center, or at 1-800-368-0038, at least two days before your renewal date. Cancelling a medication plan does not cancel the weight loss membership.

Hims legitimacy and licensing

Yes, Hims is a real company. It is the men’s brand of Hims & Hers Health, Inc., which trades on the New York Stock Exchange and files reports with the SEC. Licensed providers in affiliated medical groups review your intake and write prescriptions, and partner pharmacies ship the medication.

Being legitimate is not the same as being trouble free. On July 29, 2026 the FTC, the Utah Division of Consumer Protection and Los Angeles County sued Hims & Hers in federal court in Northern California. They allege the company charged people for prescriptions almost immediately after intake, made cancelling hard (phone, email or chat only before 2023, then a hidden online button) and shared health information with Meta and Snap. Hims denies the claims, and nothing has been proven in court. The company’s own filing says it had set aside about $60 million as of June 30, 2026 for estimated losses in that case.

The BBB lists Hims & Hers as accredited since February 2018 but currently shows it as not rated, with 4,506 complaints in three years. Earlier versions of this page reported an A+ rating, which no longer appears.

Hims pricing explained

Most Hims products are monthly or multi-month subscriptions. Hair loss starts at $22 a month for generic finasteride, and ED starts at $22 a month for generic sildenafil. Combination products, chews and sprays cost $30 to $39 a month and up.

Weight loss works differently. You pay a membership of $39 for the first month and $149 a month after that, and the medication is billed separately. Cash prices start at $149 a month for the Wegovy, Ozempic and Foundayo pills, $199 for the Wegovy pen and Ozempic, and $299 for Zepbound. A member on the cheapest pill pays about $298 a month in total after the first month.

Hims says insurance is not required, and its pages do not describe billing insurance for medication. The weight loss medication is FSA and HSA eligible, but you pay with a regular card and submit for reimbursement; the membership is not eligible.

Hims weight loss and compounded GLP-1s

Hims built much of its weight loss business on compounded semaglutide. The FDA sent it a warning letter on September 9, 2025 about how its websites described those products. In February 2026, HHS said it had referred the company to the Department of Justice, and the SEC opened an investigation into its statements about compounded semaglutide. Novo Nordisk sued Hims over a semaglutide patent on February 9, 2026 and voluntarily dismissed the case on March 9, 2026, keeping the right to refile.

In March 2026 Hims shifted its U.S. program to brand-name GLP-1s and now offers compounded GLP-1s only “on a limited scale,” according to its August 2026 quarterly report. Its weight loss page lists Wegovy, Ozempic, Foundayo, Zepbound and Mounjaro. Because of the open federal matters, BestGuide’s guide to GLP-1 programs does not currently rank Hims & Hers.

Talk with a doctor about whether a GLP-1 is right for you, and ask whether a medication is FDA approved or compounded before you pay.

What customers say about hims

Recurring themes across the review sites and complaint records listed above, not individual quotes.

Common praise

  • Quick, simple online sign-up and intake
  • Discreet delivery to your door
  • Provider guidance that reviewers describe as professional
  • Good results reported for hair loss and ED treatments

Common complaints

  • Charges that customers did not expect, including renewals billed before delivery
  • Trouble cancelling subscriptions or getting refunds
  • Slow or unhelpful customer service replies
  • Membership and medication costs higher than expected

Hair loss, ED and other treatments

Hims started with hair loss and ED. Generic finasteride, minoxidil foam and serum, generic sildenafil (Viagra) and generic tadalafil (Cialis) are FDA-approved medicines. Many of the products Hims features, such as the finasteride and minoxidil spray, chews, Hard Mints and 3-in-1 pill, are compounded, and Hims’ own pages say the FDA does not verify the safety, effectiveness or quality of compounded drugs.

It also offers mental health care with psychiatry medications from $49 a month, plus skin care and lab testing. Hims does not take insurance for these services.

Hims complaints and how to avoid problems

Complaints on the BBB and Trustpilot center on billing and cancellation: charges people did not expect, renewals billed before the last order arrived, and difficulty getting refunds. Hims replies to almost all negative Trustpilot reviews, but its terms leave most refunds to its discretion.

  • Screenshot the checkout page showing the plan length and renewal price.
  • Find your renewal date under My Subscriptions right after you order.
  • Cancel at least two days before that date, since Hims may bill renewals up to two days early.
  • If your weight loss prescription was sent to Gifthealth, cancel that medication with Gifthealth too.
  • If a charge is wrong and Hims won’t fix it, dispute it with your card issuer and file a complaint with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

How to cancel Hims and get a refund

You can cancel in the app or online account under My Subscriptions, by contacting the Customer Help Center, or by calling 1-800-368-0038. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and you must cancel at least two days before renewal to avoid the next charge.

The terms, last updated August 31, 2026, say the first month weight loss membership fee is non-refundable, shipped medication cannot be refunded, and refunds for partly used periods are at Hims’ discretion. Cancelling only the medication plan leaves the $149 membership running, while cancelling the membership also cancels the medication plan.

Hims’ terms also require binding arbitration for most disputes unless you opt out within the time the terms allow.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hims a legit company?

Yes. Hims is owned by Hims & Hers Health, Inc., a public company on the New York Stock Exchange, and licensed providers write its prescriptions. It is also being sued by the FTC, Utah and Los Angeles County over billing, cancellation and data sharing, and those claims are unproven so far.

Why is the FTC suing Hims?

The July 29, 2026 complaint alleges Hims charged for prescriptions almost immediately after intake, made subscriptions hard to cancel and shared sensitive health information with advertising platforms such as Meta and Snap. Hims denies the allegations, and the case is pending in federal court.

What is Hims' BBB rating?

As of October 12, 2026 the BBB shows Hims & Hers as not rated, though it remains accredited since February 2018. The profile lists 4,506 complaints in the last three years.

How much does Hims cost a month?

Hair loss starts at $22 a month for generic finasteride and ED at $22 a month for generic sildenafil. Weight loss costs $39 the first month and $149 a month after that for the membership, plus medication from $149 a month.

Does Hims take insurance?

No. Hims says insurance is not required and its pages do not describe billing insurance. Weight loss medication is FSA and HSA eligible for reimbursement, but the membership fee is not.

Does Hims still sell compounded semaglutide?

Hims moved its U.S. weight loss program to brand-name GLP-1s in March 2026 and says it now offers compounded GLP-1s only on a limited scale. Compounded drugs are not FDA approved.

Are Hims hair loss products FDA approved?

Generic finasteride and minoxidil are FDA approved. Several featured products, including some sprays, chews and serums that combine ingredients, are compounded and not FDA approved, as Hims' own pages note.

How do I cancel my Hims subscription?

Cancel in the app or online account under My Subscriptions, through the Help Center, or by calling 1-800-368-0038. Do it at least two days before your renewal date, and cancel the membership itself if you are on the weight loss program.

Will Hims refund me?

Usually not. The first weight loss membership month is non-refundable, shipped medication can't be refunded, and other refunds are at Hims' discretion. If you were charged without authorization, contact your card issuer.

Is Hims cheaper than my pharmacy?

Often not for generics. Finasteride and sildenafil are widely available at low cash prices with a prescription from your own doctor, so compare before subscribing.
