Kohler's walk-in tub suits people who want a 3-inch step-in, a heated backrest and jets from a household name, and who can pay a premium. It is a legitimate product from Kohler Co., the Wisconsin plumbing maker founded in 1873, sold through local KOHLER Authorized Dealers rather than by Kohler directly. The tradeoffs: no published price, so you only learn the cost at an in-home sales visit, and your installation and service depend on the local dealer. Get the dealer's labor warranty in writing, because Kohler's own written warranty excludes installation and labor costs.

Kohler pricing at a glance

| Accessories (bath walls, grab bars, shower option) | $1,000 to $5,000+ |

| Bath walls | $300 (acrylic) to $2,000 (stone) |

Kohler walk-in tub legitimacy and licensing
Yes. The KOHLER Walk-In Bath (model name Belay) is made by Kohler Co. of Kohler, Wisconsin, a plumbing manufacturer in business since 1873. The BBB gives Kohler Co. an A+ rating; it isn’t BBB accredited and has 84 complaints in the last 3 years across all its products.
What many buyers don’t realize: you don’t buy the tub from Kohler. Calls and web forms are routed to a local KOHLER Authorized Dealer, an independent company Kohler trains and certifies, which does the in-home quote, sale and installation. The tub isn’t sold in showrooms, it’s only offered in the U.S., and some states have only partial coverage. Look up the dealer’s own BBB profile and state contractor license before you sign.
a Kohler walk-in tub cost
Kohler doesn’t publish a price. You get one exact quote at a free in-home consultation, which Kohler says includes the tub, bath walls, accessories, removal of your old tub and installation, with no added fees on installation day.
Kohler’s own cost guide gives industry ranges: $2,000 to $20,000 for the tub alone, $2,500 to $8,000 for installation and $1,000 to $5,000 for accessories, or $5,500 to $33,000 or more in total. A larger water heater can add up to $3,000; Kohler says a standard 40, 50 or 75 gallon heater is usually enough depending on where you live, and the dealer checks yours.
As of October 2026, participating dealers advertise 50% off installation labor (which may exclude plumbing and electrical costs) and 12 months with no interest through GreenSky. That GreenSky plan bills interest during the promo period and waives it only if you pay the full balance in time, so plan to pay it off before month 12. The offer ends October 31, 2026 and isn’t available in Alaska, Hawaii, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties or the City of Buffalo, New York.
What you get: features and dimensions
- Entry: a 3-inch step-in and what Kohler calls the widest door opening on the market, with interior grab bars and exterior handrails.
- Size: customizable from 52 to 60 inches long and 28 to 32 inches wide to fit a standard tub space; 31.5 inches deep with a 17-inch seat. Kohler says it fits 95% of people from 5 feet to 6 feet 2 inches.
- Comfort: 10 hydrotherapy jets, 17 BubbleMassage air jets, the Bask heated backrest with three heat levels, a 3-spray handshower and fast fill and drain (times depend on your plumbing).
- Looks: White or Biscuit, polished chrome or brushed nickel fixtures and 12 LuxStone wall designs.
- Shower Package: a gooseneck shower arm and glass bath screen so you can stand to shower. It has to be ordered with the tub.
There’s no bariatric or wheelchair-accessible model, and review sites note it lacks an ozone sanitizing system that some rivals offer.
Kohler walk-in tub warranty: read the fine print
Kohler’s website says the walk-in bath carries a Lifetime Limited Warranty from Kohler Co. for as long as the original buyer owns the home, provided a KOHLER Authorized Dealer installs it, and lists the door seal, hydrotherapy system and faucet and handshower as covered. The same page says years of coverage may vary by location.
Kohler’s downloadable warranty document is narrower. It covers the Belay walk-in bath for life, says all other components carry Kohler’s one-year limited warranty unless otherwise specified, and states that Kohler Co. isn’t responsible for removal, installation or labor charges. Improper cleaning voids it, and you need your original sales receipt for any claim.
So before you sign, ask your dealer to put in writing which parts are covered for life, how long the pumps and heater are covered, and how many years of labor the dealer itself guarantees.
Complaints and how to avoid problems
Because a local dealer handles the sale and installation, most problems come down to that dealer. Kohler Co.’s BBB profile covers all Kohler products, so its complaint count tells you little about walk-in tubs. Check your dealer separately on the BBB and with your state or county contractor licensing office.
- Expect a sales visit. The price comes at an in-home appointment. Don’t sign the same day if you want to compare; the FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule generally gives you 3 business days to cancel a sale of $25 or more made in your home.
- Get every cost in writing, including any water heater, electrical or wall work.
- Ask for the labor warranty from the dealer, since Kohler’s warranty excludes labor.
- Know that fill and drain time depends on your plumbing. You sit in the tub while it fills and drains, which some people find chilly; the heated backrest helps.
Will Medicare or the VA pay for a Kohler walk-in tub?
Original Medicare usually won’t. Kohler’s own guide says Medicare doesn’t cover the cost or installation of a walk-in tub except in rare situations, because it isn’t durable medical equipment. Other places to ask:
- Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS) waivers in some states.
- VA HISA grants for veterans: up to $6,800 for a service-connected disability (or a rating of at least 50 percent) and up to $2,000 for other eligible veterans. HISA excludes spa, hot tub and Jacuzzi type tubs, so ask the VA before counting on it for a jetted tub.
- USDA rural repair loans and grants for low-income older homeowners in rural areas.

Frequently asked questions
How much should you budget for a Kohler walk-in tub?
Kohler doesn't publish prices; you get a quote at an in-home visit. Its own cost guide puts walk-in tubs at $2,000 to $20,000 before installation and $5,500 to $33,000 or more installed, and as a premium brand Kohler is unlikely to sit at the low end.
Who installs Kohler walk-in tubs?
Local KOHLER Authorized Dealers, independent installers that Kohler trains and certifies. They handle the quote, removal of your old tub and installation, often in one day.
Does Kohler's walk-in tub warranty cover labor?
Kohler's written warranty says Kohler Co. isn't responsible for removal, installation or labor charges. Ask your dealer what labor warranty it provides and get it in writing.
Is the Kohler walk-in tub warranty really lifetime?
The tub is covered for as long as the original buyer owns the home, if a certified installer put it in. Kohler's warranty document says other components get one year unless otherwise specified, while its website lists the door seal and jet system as covered and says coverage years can vary by location, so confirm the terms for your area.
What is the step-in height of a Kohler walk-in tub?
About 3 inches, though Kohler says it can vary slightly with your bathroom layout.
What size is the Kohler walk-in tub?
It can be built from 52 to 60 inches long and 28 to 32 inches wide to fit a standard tub space, with a 31.5-inch depth and a 17-inch-high seat.
Does Kohler make a bariatric or wheelchair-accessible walk-in tub?
No. Kohler says it doesn't offer a bariatric model and that its standard bath fits 95% of people from 5 feet to 6 feet 2 inches.
Do I need a new water heater for a Kohler walk-in tub?
Maybe. Kohler says a 40, 50 or 75 gallon heater can be enough depending on your area, and the dealer checks yours at the quote visit. Its cost guide says a new one can cost up to $3,000.
Does Medicare pay for a Kohler walk-in tub?
Usually not. Kohler's guide says Medicare covers it only in rare situations; Medicaid waivers, VA grants and USDA rural repair programs are better places to ask.
Can I see a Kohler walk-in tub in a showroom?
No. Kohler says it isn't shown in showrooms; the dealer brings videos, photos and specs to the in-home appointment.
