Our verdict

Accredited Debt Relief's site calls the product "debt consolidation," but the core program is debt settlement: you stop paying creditors, save in a dedicated account, and it negotiates lump-sum payoffs for a fee of 15% to 25% of the debt you enroll. It is a legitimate company: it is a trade name of Beyond Finance, LLC in Chicago, holds an A+ BBB rating, and is an accredited member of the Association for Consumer Debt Relief. By its own disclosure, clients who make every deposit pay back about 55% of enrolled debt before fees, so roughly 70% to 80% after fees, while late fees, credit damage, creditor lawsuits and taxes on forgiven debt are real risks. Talk to a free nonprofit credit counselor first, and enroll only if you can't afford a debt management plan.

What Accredited Debt Relief's settlement program costs, as published October 20262

Cost Amount When you pay Paid to
Consultation Free Not applicable Not applicable
Program fee 15% to 25% of enrolled debt After you approve a settlement and make at least one payment on it Accredited Debt Relief
Dedicated account setup $9 Once, at enrollment Independent account provider
Dedicated account maintenance $9.75 a month Monthly for the life of the program Independent account provider
Settlement payments About 55% of enrolled debt on average, for clients who make every deposit As each debt settles Your creditors

Example using the company's own figures: on $20,000 of enrolled debt, settlements averaging 55% ($11,000) plus a 15% to 25% fee ($3,000 to $5,000) and about $360 in account fees over three years comes to roughly $14,400 to $16,400. Results vary, not every client finishes, and interest and late fees keep growing on accounts until they settle.

Accredited Debt Relief, step by step

  1. Free consultation

You call or fill out the online form and a specialist reviews your debts, income and budget. The company says the check does not affect your credit score.

  2. Option match

You are offered either a settlement program or, if you qualify, a consolidation loan from an affiliated lender (APRs from 4.9% to 35.99%). Some callers are referred to third parties.

  3. Enrollment and deposits

You sign an enrollment agreement, open a dedicated account you own at an independent provider, and make one monthly deposit while you stop paying the enrolled creditors.

  4. Negotiation

Once enough money builds up, Accredited negotiates lump-sum or installment settlements. Each offer comes to you for approval, and its fee is charged only after you approve and a payment is made.

  5. Graduation

Programs usually run 24 to 48 months. A final review checks that your total payments plus fees came to less than your enrolled debt; if not, it refunds the difference from its fees.

Accredited Debt Relief legitimacy and licensing

Yes. Accredited Debt Relief is a trade name of Beyond Finance, LLC, a debt relief company the BBB lists as starting in 2011, with headquarters at 222 N. LaSalle St. in Chicago. Both the Accredited Debt Relief and Beyond Finance BBB profiles carry an A+ rating and have been accredited since July 25, 2025. Both names appear on the member list of the Association for Consumer Debt Relief (ACDR), the industry trade group formerly called the American Fair Credit Council, and a Beyond Finance executive sits on the ACDR board. The company says it has helped more than 1.3 million clients and resolved more than $15 billion in debt; those are its own figures.

Two things to know before you call. First, the site describes its product as “debt consolidation,” but the main program is Debt settlement. Negotiating with creditors to accept less than the full balance as payment in full. Compare debt relief companies, where you stop paying creditors and it negotiates payoffs for less than you owe. A consolidation loan from an affiliated lender is offered only to people who qualify. Second, the BBB counts 107 complaints against Accredited Debt Relief and 678 against Beyond Finance in the last three years, so a high grade does not mean problems are rare. We found no FTC, CFPB or state attorney general enforcement action against either name as of October 12, 2026.

Accredited Debt Relief cost

The consultation is free. If you enroll in the settlement program, Accredited charges 15% to 25% of the debt you enroll, depending on your state and balance. Under federal rules it can only collect that fee for a debt after it negotiates a settlement, you approve it, and you make at least one payment under the new terms. You also pay the independent Dedicated account. An account you own, held by a third party, where you save monthly deposits used to pay settlements and fees. Compare debt relief companies provider a one-time $9 setup fee and $9.75 a month.

Look at the total, not just the monthly payment. The company discloses that clients who make every deposit pay back about 55% of their Enrolled debt. The total balance of the accounts you put into a settlement program, which most companies use to calculate their fee. Compare debt relief companies before fees. Add a 15% to 25% fee and you are at roughly 70% to 80% of what you owed, before account fees, interest and late charges that pile up while accounts wait to settle. Its guarantee promises a refund from its fees if your creditor payments plus its fees end up higher than your enrolled debt, so you should never pay more than you started with, but the savings can be smaller than the “40% lower monthly payment” pitch suggests.

How the Accredited Debt Relief program works

After a free review of your debts and income, a specialist offers you one of two paths. If your credit is good enough, you may be matched with a consolidation loan from an affiliated lender; the company lists loans from $1,000 to $100,000 with APRs of 4.9% to 35.99% and origination fees of 1% to 6%. Most callers who reach out because they are behind end up in the settlement program, which has no credit score requirement.

In the settlement program you make one monthly deposit into a dedicated account that you own and can withdraw from, and you stop paying the enrolled creditors. When the balance is large enough, Accredited negotiates with each creditor and sends you the offer to approve. The company handles credit cards, store cards, medical bills, personal loans and some collection accounts, but not mortgages, auto loans, student loans, tax debt or support payments. Programs typically run 24 to 48 months, and you track progress in its app or online dashboard.

What customers say about Accredited Debt Relief

Recurring themes across the review sites and complaint records listed above, not individual quotes.

Common praise

  • Patient, nonjudgmental specialists on the first calls
  • Clear walk-throughs of the program and a lower monthly payment
  • Relief from juggling several card payments
  • A mobile app and dashboard that show deposits and settlement progress

Common complaints

  • Not realizing the program is debt settlement rather than a consolidation loan, and accounts going into default
  • Credit score damage larger than expected
  • Fees taking a large share of payments, and fees retained after canceling
  • Pressure to sign quickly and repeated sales calls
  • Months of deposits before the first settlement

Accredited Debt Relief complaints and lawsuits

Review scores are high: 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot from more than 12,000 reviews, most of them invited by the company and written soon after the first calls. The one-star reviews tell a consistent story: people who thought they were getting a consolidation loan, credit scores that fell further than expected, fees that took a large share of deposits, pressure to sign quickly, long waits before the first settlement, and disputes over fees when canceling.

Court records show Beyond Finance, doing business as Accredited Debt Relief, as a defendant in several 2026 cases. Jackson v. Beyond Finance, LLC was removed to federal court in New Jersey (No. 3:26-cv-05780) in May 2026; the complaint is not public and a June 2026 dismissal order has been reported. A self-represented consumer filed Tatum v. Beyond Finance, LLC in the Eastern District of Texas in June 2026. At least eight more cases were filed against Beyond Finance inside bankruptcy cases in Colorado, Alabama and Michigan in 2026; cases like these often seek to recover payments made before a bankruptcy filing. None of these is a finding of wrongdoing. Its terms require individual arbitration and waive class actions for disputes about its websites and services.

To avoid problems, get the enrollment agreement in writing, confirm your fee percentage and the estimated date of your first settlement, and ask what happens if a creditor sues you.

Debt settlement risks and the rules that protect you

The FTC’s Telemarketing Sales Rule bans debt relief companies that sell by phone from charging any fee before they settle a debt, you agree to the settlement in writing, and you make at least one payment to the creditor. Your savings must sit in an account you own, at an insured institution, run by an independent administrator, and you can withdraw your money at any time; if you leave, your funds must come back within seven business days, minus fees already earned. Before you sign, the company must disclose its fees, how long results take, how much you must save before it makes offers, and the consequences of stopping payments.

Those consequences are real. The CFPB warns that debt settlement can hurt your credit scores, that creditors may sue while you build savings, and that interest and late fees can make balances grow. Accredited’s own disclosures say the same: your credit may be hurt for a time, you may face collections or lawsuits, and your obligations may increase. Forgiven debt is also generally taxable income according to the IRS, and you may receive a Form 1099-C; if you were insolvent when the debt was canceled you may be able to exclude some or all of it using Form 982. Talk to a tax professional before your first settlement.

Canceling Accredited Debt Relief

You can leave a debt settlement program at any time. Because the dedicated account is yours, federal rules require that the money in it be returned to you within seven business days of your request, minus any fees already earned on debts that were settled. Fees earned on completed settlements are generally not refunded, and accounts that were not settled will still be in default, so plan how you will deal with those creditors before you cancel. Call customer support (Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, weekends 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET), put your request in writing, and also notify the dedicated account provider.

Who should skip Accredited Debt Relief

Settlement makes sense only when you truly can’t keep up and the alternative is bankruptcy. Look elsewhere if you are still current on your cards, because a nonprofit Debt management plan (DMP). A repayment plan set up by a credit counseling agency that consolidates payments and often lowers interest, while you repay the full balance. Compare debt relief companies can cut your interest without the credit damage. Skip it if you plan to apply for a mortgage or car loan in the next few years, if most of your debt is student loans, taxes or secured loans, or if a creditor has already sued you, since a bankruptcy or consumer law attorney is the better call. NFCC member agencies offer credit counseling and can be reached at 877-360-6322.

Frequently asked questions

Is Accredited Debt Relief a real company?

Yes. It is a trade name of Beyond Finance, LLC in Chicago, rated A+ by the BBB and accredited by the Association for Consumer Debt Relief. It follows the FTC rule that bans upfront fees. Being legitimate does not make settlement low risk, so weigh the credit and lawsuit risks first.

Who owns Accredited Debt Relief?

Beyond Finance, LLC. Accredited's own disclosures call it a DBA and a division of Beyond Finance, and both share the same Chicago address in BBB records. Reviews and ratings on its site cover both names.

How much does Accredited Debt Relief charge?

15% to 25% of the debt you enroll, depending on your state and balance, charged only after each debt is settled. You also pay a $9 setup fee and $9.75 a month to the independent account provider. The consultation is free.

Is Accredited Debt Relief a loan or debt settlement?

Mostly debt settlement, even though its site uses the word consolidation. If you qualify, it can match you with a consolidation loan from an affiliated lender at 4.9% to 35.99% APR. Ask the specialist which product you are being enrolled in before you sign.

Does Accredited Debt Relief hurt your credit?

Yes, in most cases. The settlement program has you stop paying creditors, so late payments and charge-offs are reported, and the company's own disclosures say your credit may be adversely affected. Scores can recover after accounts are resolved, but expect damage during the program.

What is the minimum debt for Accredited Debt Relief?

It does not publish a hard minimum. The company says typical clients have $5,000 or more in unsecured debt and that eligibility is decided case by case, with no maximum.

What states does Accredited Debt Relief serve?

It evaluates people in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., but the programs and fees available vary by state. In some cases it refers callers to third parties after the evaluation.

Can I be sued while in the program?

Yes. Creditors can sue while you are saving toward settlements, and Accredited's disclosures warn that you may face collections or lawsuits. If you are served, tell the company right away and consider talking to a consumer attorney.

Do I have to pay taxes on forgiven debt?

Often, yes. The IRS generally treats canceled debt as taxable income, and creditors may send you a Form 1099-C. If you were insolvent when the debt was canceled, you may be able to exclude it using Form 982, so check with a tax professional.

How many complaints does Accredited Debt Relief have?

The BBB lists 107 complaints against Accredited Debt Relief and 678 against parent Beyond Finance in the last three years, as of October 2026. The CFPB public database showed no complaints filed under either name.
