The track record is short. We found 31 reviews on Clutch averaging 4.7 out of 5, but no BBB profile and no Trustpilot page. That isn’t a warning sign by itself for business software, but it means you have less independent history to check than with older vendors. Ask for references in your industry and a copy of any Compliance Shield terms before signing.

Captain Compliance pricing explained

The Personal plan is free for one domain with 2,500 website views a month and 50 cookie scans, aimed at blogs and portfolios. Professional is $499 per month for one domain, with access to five privacy modules, 500 scanned pages, 150,000 website views, three team seats and a dedicated support contact. Enterprise is quote-only and adds multiple domains, unlimited scanned pages and team members, DSAR automation and custom integrations.

If you go over your plan’s limits, the company says to contact it to review capacity, so ask in advance how overages are priced. The terms say subscriptions renew automatically each month, quarter or year depending on what you sign.

What the platform does

Captain Compliance combines a consent banner that adapts by location, a cookie and tracker scanner, Patrol monitoring that flags new tags or consent failures, Universal Consent for browser privacy signals such as Global Privacy ControlGlobal Privacy Control (GPC). A browser signal that asks websites not to sell or share personal information. Compare consent management platforms, hosted privacy and cookie notices with version history, a portal for data subject access requests, data mapping, assessments and AI governance records.

The pitch is enforcement and evidence: blocking trackers until a visitor consents and keeping a record of each consent choice, which matters if you get a demand letter claiming your site shared data without permission. Its site lists support for GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and CPRA, other U.S. state laws, CIPA, Canada’s PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25, Brazil’s LGPD and several Asia-Pacific laws.

How Compliance Shield works, and its limits

Compliance Shield is Captain Compliance’s promise to financially back qualifying privacy claims and regulatory actions tied to consent, cookie disclosures, GPC signals, DSAR workflows and privacy notices, when the platform is properly installed with recommended settings and not bypassed.

Read it as a vendor commitment, not a policy. The pricing page says it is available only to qualifying Professional and Enterprise deployments, under separate written terms, and is not insurance. It excludes trackers or data flows outside the platform, configurations that depart from recommended settings, and anything before deployment or after removal. Get the written terms, check the limits and exclusions, and compare them with any cyber or media liability insurance you already carry.

Cancellation, refunds and contract terms

Under the terms of service last updated July 18, 2025, fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable except where the terms say otherwise. You can cancel at any time, but cancellation takes effect at the end of the current subscription period and you won’t get a refund for the rest of that period. Subscriptions are charged automatically on the same day each billing cycle.

The terms are governed by Florida law and include binding arbitration for disputes unless you opt out within 30 days of first agreeing to them, following the opt-out steps in the dispute section. If you sign an annual contract, put the renewal date on your calendar.
