If you have Spectrum Internet, Spectrum Mobile is hard to beat this year: new mobile customers can get the first Unlimited line free for up to 12 months through December 31, 2026, and prices include taxes. Without Spectrum Internet you can't buy it, and Mint's $30 unlimited on a 12-month plan is the cheaper route. The networks differ, with Mint on T-Mobile and Spectrum on Verizon, so coverage at your address should settle a close call. Mint scores better on satisfaction; Spectrum has stores.

Who can buy each one
Mint Mobile is open to anyone. Spectrum Mobile requires an active Spectrum Internet account to sign up and to keep the service, so if you cancel Spectrum Internet, you lose your mobile eligibility. If you don’t have Spectrum Internet and don’t plan to get it, Mint is the only option of the two.
If you do have Spectrum Internet, Spectrum’s current offer is strong. New Spectrum Mobile customers can get their first Unlimited line free for up to 12 months through bill credits, through December 31, 2026. The offer excludes existing Spectrum Mobile and Cox Mobile customers, and the free line can slow after 30GB in times of high demand. Phones, smartwatches and tablets don’t qualify for the free line.
Spectrum also sells bundles such as Internet 100 with two Unlimited lines for $80 a month for two years, plus an activation fee.
Mint’s equivalent of a deal is its 12-month plan, which locks in the lowest price for a year. Its 3 and 6 month prices are introductory for new customers, so read the renewal price before you buy a short plan.
Price: which is cheaper?
For one unlimited line at regular prices, they’re close. Mint Unlimited works out to $30 a month on a 12-month plan, paid as $360 upfront. Spectrum’s Unlimited plan is $30 per additional line on multi-line accounts; Spectrum didn’t show the single-line price on the pages we checked.
Taxes tip it toward Spectrum. Charter says Spectrum Mobile plans have no added taxes or hidden fees. Mint adds taxes plus a recovery fee of about $1.75 to $2.58 a month, so a $30 Mint line usually costs more than $30.
Mint wins for light users. Its 12-month plans cost $15 a month for 6GB, $20 for 17GB and $25 for 23GB. Spectrum stopped selling By the Gig to new customers on July 22, 2026, so its cheapest new plan is Unlimited.
At the high end, Spectrum’s Unlimited Plus is $40 a line and Unlimited Plus Premium is $50 a line on multi-line accounts or $60 for one line, with 4K video and 50GB of hotspot. Mint has no plan above Unlimited.
Over the first year, a Spectrum Internet household that gets the free line pays less. In later years, the totals depend on how many lines you have and how much data each person uses.
Network, data and hotspot
Mint runs on T-Mobile’s network, and T-Mobile has owned Mint since May 2024. Spectrum Mobile runs on Verizon’s network, and phones also connect to about 45 million Spectrum WiFi access points. Check both coverage maps where you live and work; in many areas this matters more than a few dollars.
Both can slow data on busy towers. Mint says Unlimited users may see slower speeds after 50GB in congested areas and that video streams in SD. Spectrum’s free promotional line can slow after 30GB in times of high demand.
Mint has more hotspot at the base level: up to 20GB on Unlimited, versus 5GB of high-speed hotspot on Spectrum Unlimited. Spectrum’s Unlimited Plus raises that to 10GB and Unlimited Plus Premium to 50GB.
For travel, Spectrum is more generous. All three Spectrum plans include roaming in more than 215 countries and destinations, with speeds reduced after 10GB on Unlimited. Mint includes calls to Mexico, Canada and the UK, with international add-ons for other trips.
Customer service and satisfaction
Mint scored 711 out of 1,000 in J.D. Power’s 2026 study, the highest among prepaid MVNOs. Spectrum Mobile scored 627 among postpaid MVNOs, behind Consumer Cellular and Google Fi. The two scores come from different segments of the study, so treat them as a guide.
Mint has a B- BBB rating with 2,132 complaints in three years and a 3.0 out of 5 Trustpilot score. Charter Spectrum’s BBB profile, which covers all Spectrum services, has an A+ rating with 12,710 complaints in three years, and its overall Trustpilot score is 3.7 out of 5.
Spectrum complaints focus on free lines or credits that didn’t appear and charges on lines customers thought were canceled. Mint complaints focus on hard-to-reach support, number transfers and renewal prices.
Spectrum has stores, and reviewers often praise in-store staff. Mint is online only. With Spectrum, save the offer terms and check your first two bills line by line. With Mint, use the 7-day money back guarantee on plans bought from Mint to test coverage.
