For most single users, Mint Mobile is the better value: it runs on T-Mobile's network, and unlimited costs $30 a month on a 12-month plan versus $50 to $100 for one T-Mobile postpaid line before its $5.49 per line fee and taxes. You give up priority data on busy towers, HD video, streaming perks, stores and phone financing. T-Mobile makes more sense for families who want multi-line pricing, people who need large hotspot allowances, and anyone who wants in-person help.

Price: how much you save with Mint
Mint Mobile is T-Mobile’s budget brand, and the price gap is large. Mint’s Unlimited plan costs $30 a month on a 12-month plan, paid as $360 upfront. Its smaller plans run $15 for 6GB, $20 for 17GB and $25 for 23GB a month on 12 months. Mint’s regular 3-month prices are higher, at $25 to $45 a month, and its 3 and 6 month prices for new customers are introductory.
T-Mobile’s postpaid plans for one line cost $50 on Essentials Saver 2.0, $60 on Essentials 2.0, $85 on Experience More 2.0 and $100 on Experience Beyond 2.0, all with the $5 AutoPay discount. T-Mobile then adds a $5.49 per line regulatory programs and telco recovery fee, taxes and a one-time $35 per line device connection charge. T-Mobile Prepaid starts at $45 a month.
For one line, Mint saves roughly $25 to $75 a month before fees. The gap narrows for families: four T-Mobile Essentials 2.0 lines cost $120 a month, or $30 a line, before fees. Mint doesn’t discount extra lines in the same way.
T-Mobile’s 5-year price guarantee covers talk, text and data but not fees or taxes, and in July 2026 it moved older-plan customers to newer plans with increases of up to $6 per line. Mint’s price is fixed for the term you prepay.
Same towers, different priority
Mint runs on T-Mobile’s 5G and 4G LTE network, and T-Mobile has owned Mint since May 2024. Coverage at your address will be the same on both. What differs is priority when a tower is busy.
Mint customers can get lower priority than T-Mobile’s own postpaid customers during congestion. On Mint Unlimited, Mint says you may notice slower speeds after 50GB in a month in busy areas, and video streams in standard definition.
T-Mobile’s plans vary. Essentials 2.0 includes 50GB of premium data and SD video, so it isn’t far from Mint in day-to-day use. Experience Beyond 2.0 includes unlimited premium data and 250GB of high-speed hotspot, which no Mint plan comes close to. Mint’s Unlimited hotspot tops out at 20GB.
In practice, most people won’t notice deprioritization in a typical day. It shows up at stadiums, concerts, commuter rail and other crowded places, and in areas where T-Mobile’s network is already stretched. If that describes your daily routine, T-Mobile’s higher plans are worth the money.
Perks, phones and stores
T-Mobile’s higher plans bundle extras that Mint doesn’t offer. Experience Beyond 2.0 includes Netflix Standard with ads and Hulu, plus large hotspot and travel allowances. T-Mobile also has versions of its plans for customers 55 and older, military members and first responders, and it sells phones on monthly installment plans with trade-in deals.
T-Mobile has stores where you can get help in person. Mint is online only and sells phones and SIM kits on its site and through retailers.
Mint’s extras are simpler: every plan includes unlimited talk and text, hotspot and calls to Mexico, Canada and the UK. Its 7-day money back guarantee applies to plans bought directly from Mint.
If you keep a phone for several years and don’t watch Netflix or Hulu, the perks are worth little to you, and Mint’s price is hard to beat. If you’d pay for those services anyway, add their cost to Mint’s price before you compare. A family that wants the newest phone every couple of years may also come out ahead on T-Mobile’s device promotions, as long as it reads the bill credit terms.
Customer service and satisfaction
Mint scores higher with its own customers. In J.D. Power’s 2026 satisfaction study, Mint scored 711 out of 1,000, the highest among prepaid MVNOs. T-Mobile scored 636 for postpaid, the highest of the three national carriers but well below Mint.
Complaint counts reflect size. T-Mobile’s BBB profile shows an A+ rating with 27,023 complaints in three years, and its Trustpilot score is 1.4 out of 5. Mint has a B- BBB rating with 2,132 complaints in three years and a 3.0 Trustpilot score.
The complaint themes differ. T-Mobile complaints are mostly about billing, price changes and support. Mint complaints are mostly about hard-to-reach support, number transfers and renewal prices.
T-Mobile’s location data fine is also worth knowing: the FCC fined it $80 million, plus $12.2 million for Sprint, over 2018 location data practices, and a federal appeals court upheld it in 2025.
Before switching either way, check whether your phone is unlocked, and if you’re leaving T-Mobile, confirm whether you owe anything on a financed phone.
