Blue Apron legitimacy and licensing
Yes. Blue Apron launched in 2012, went public in 2017, and was bought by Wonder Group, the food hall and delivery company led by Marc Lore, for $103 million in a deal that closed in November 2023. It still ships nationwide meal kits and prepared meals under the Blue Apron name.
The bigger question in 2026 is reliability. Since 2023 Blue Apron has relied on one outside company, FreshRealm, to make and ship its boxes. FreshRealm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in New Jersey on April 27, 2026, citing listeria-related recalls of contaminated ingredients and the loss of Walmart as a customer; Blue Apron made up about 70% of its revenue. Misfits Market took over Blue Apron’s fulfillment. We found no recall notice naming Blue Apron meals, but the transition caused the service problems described below.
Blue Apron without a subscription
On August 19, 2025 Blue Apron dropped its subscription requirement. You can now browse the weekly menu, pick individual meals and check out once. If you want regular deliveries, Autoship and Save repeats an order and takes 5% off. A separate Blue Apron+ membership costs $9.99 a month.
The menu was more than doubled at the relaunch. Alongside classic meal kits there are about 40 Dish by Blue Apron meals that heat in about five minutes and Assemble and Bake meals that come prepped for one pan.
How much Blue Apron costs
Prices are set per item, so your total depends on what you add, and shipping is charged per order unless a membership benefit covers it. Blue Apron’s site blocks automated access, so we couldn’t confirm current per-serving prices or the shipping fee; check the order total, including shipping and tax, before you pay. Third-party price figures that circulate online date from before the 2025 relaunch and may be out of date.
If you join Blue Apron+ at $9.99 a month or turn on Autoship, put a reminder on your calendar. Both renew until you cancel.

The 2026 delivery problems
Blue Apron told FreshRealm in April 2025 that it had breached their production agreement and sent a termination notice on December 18, 2025. After FreshRealm’s bankruptcy filing, Misfits Market set up new fulfillment in less than 10 weeks.
Customers reported late and canceled deliveries, missing or wrong ingredients, damaged items and trouble reaching support. Blue Apron acknowledged the problems, temporarily cut menu choices, added quality checks and offered refunds or credits. Recent Trustpilot reviews show the same pattern.

BBB lists 51 complaints in three years and rates Blue Apron D-. Trustpilot shows 2.4 out of 5, with only 39 reviews in the past year, mostly about missing items, late boxes and service. Common threads across both: incomplete orders, food that arrived warm, and difficulty getting a refund rather than a credit.
To protect yourself: order a single week first, pay with a credit card, unpack the box the day it arrives, photograph anything missing or damaged, and ask for a refund to your card if you don’t plan to order again. If a charge you didn’t authorize won’t come off, you can dispute it with your card issuer.
Allergies and special diets
Meal kits are packed in shared facilities, and the 2026 substitutions mean the item in your box may not match the recipe card.
