Our verdict

Frontier's fiber service is the reason to choose it: symmetrical speeds up to 7 Gig, no data caps and 4 to 5 year price guarantees, with a bigger discount if you have Verizon mobile. It is a legitimate internet provider and, since Verizon's acquisition closed on January 20, 2026, part of Verizon. Customer service is its weak point, with a 1.1 out of 5 Trustpilot score and about 4,900 BBB complaints in three years, and its older copper DSL service is a different, much slower product, so confirm your address gets fiber before you order.

Frontier, step by step

  1. Check your address

Enter your address on Frontier's site or the FCC National Broadband Map to see whether you can get fiber or only DSL.

  2. Pick a speed

Choose from 500 Mbps to 7 Gig. Read the FCC broadband label for the price after any promotion and all fees.

  3. Add a Verizon discount

If you have Verizon mobile, ask for the $15 a month mobile and home discount.

  4. Installation

A technician installs the fiber line and Wi-Fi 7 router. Confirm whether your plan carries the $100 install fee.

  5. Cancel or move

There is no annual contract, but return rented equipment promptly to avoid non-return charges.

Frontier legitimacy and licensing

Yes. Frontier Communications has provided phone and internet service for decades, and the BBB lists it as founded in 1935. Verizon announced that all regulatory approvals were in place and the acquisition would close on January 20, 2026; Verizon now describes Frontier as a Verizon company. Existing customers kept their Frontier accounts and deals, and Verizon said it would contact them about any changes.

The BBB rates Frontier A+ but lists 4,898 complaints in three years, and Trustpilot shows 1.1 out of 5. In 2022 Frontier agreed to an FTC and California order requiring it to back up DSL speed claims, stop selling DSL in congested areas and let affected customers switch or cancel for free, plus $8.5 million in civil penalties and costs.

Frontier internet cost

Frontier Fiber plans listed in October 2026 are $54.99 a month for 500 Mbps, $74.99 for 1 Gig, $89.99 for 2 Gig, $114.99 for 5 Gig and $124.99 for 7 Gig. Fiber 500 has a 4-year price guarantee and faster plans have 5 years. Verizon mobile customers get $15 a month off, which brings Fiber 500 as low as $29.99 with other offers.

Watch for a $100 installation fee on Fiber 500 and check the FCC broadband label, which every plan must show, for taxes and fees. Prices depend on your address.

Frontier Fiber vs. Frontier DSL

Frontier Fiber and Frontier DSL are very different services. Fiber offers matching upload and download speeds up to 7 Gig, no data caps and Wi-Fi 7 equipment. DSL runs over copper phone lines with much lower speeds, and it was the subject of the 2022 FTC speed claims case. If your address only qualifies for DSL, compare 5G home internet and cable before signing up.

What customers say about Frontier

Recurring themes across the review sites and complaint records listed above, not individual quotes.

Common praise

  • Fast, symmetrical fiber speeds
  • No data caps
  • Long price guarantees
  • Wi-Fi 7 router included

Common complaints

  • Hard to reach support and long hold times
  • Missed installation and repair appointments
  • Unexpected price increases and fees on bills
  • Outages and slow DSL service
  • Charges for equipment customers say they returned

Complaints and what customers report

Frontier reviews are polarized. Customers with working fiber praise the speed, while BBB and Trustpilot complaints focus on hard-to-reach support, missed install and repair appointments, unexpected bill increases, outages and charges for equipment customers say they returned. Keep your order confirmation and price guarantee terms, get return receipts for any equipment, and file an FCC complaint at fcc.gov/complaints if a billing or service issue is not fixed.

Canceling Frontier

Frontier Fiber plans have no annual contract, so you can cancel without an early termination fee. Return any rented equipment as instructed and keep the tracking number, since reviewers report non-return charges of $150 or more. If you leave a Verizon mobile and home bundle, your home internet discount ends.

Who should look elsewhere

Look elsewhere if you can only get Frontier DSL, if you rely on frequent in-person support, or if another fiber provider such as AT&T Fiber or Verizon Fios serves your address at a lower price for the speed you need.
