Papaya Global fits mid-size and larger companies that want payroll, EOR and worker payments in one system. It is a legitimate global payroll and employer of record company founded in 2016, with its payments handled by Azimo, a subsidiary regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, De Nederlandsche Bank and regulators in Canada, Australia and Hong Kong. Its published prices are starting points, not flat rates, so get a written quote per country. Reviews are mostly positive, but the complaints that do appear are about payroll errors, late payments and slow email-only support, so ask about support hours and error correction before you sign.

Papaya, step by step
Demo and quote
You book a demo, list the countries and worker types you need, and get a tailored quote. Prices on the site are only starting points.
Company verification
For payments, Papaya runs one KYC check per entity. It says the form takes 15 to 30 minutes and review can take up to two days.
Onboard workers
Papaya generates country-specific contracts for e-signing and workers complete self-service onboarding.
Run payroll and payments
You fund a wallet in one of 15 currencies, approve payroll, and Papaya pays workers and statutory payments in local currency.
Offboard or move to your own entity
Termination and severance rules vary by country. Ask Papaya in writing how terminations and a move to your own entity are handled and charged.
Papaya Global legitimacy and licensing
Yes. Papaya Global was founded in 2016 by Eynat Guez, Ruben Drong and Ofer Herman and has raised more than $450 million from investors including Insight Partners, Tiger Global and Bessemer Venture Partners, most recently at a $3.7 billion valuation. It lists a U.S. office at 200 West 41st Street in New York.
Its payments run through Azimo, a money transfer company Papaya bought in March 2022. Azimo Ltd. is regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an e-money issuer, Azimo B.V. by De Nederlandsche Bank as a payment institution, and other Azimo companies by FINTRAC and Revenu Quebec in Canada and AUSTRAC in Australia. Papaya says payments use J.P. Morgan and Citibank rails.
We found no BBB profile for Papaya Global. On Trustpilot it has a 4.2 rating from 58 reviews.
Papaya Global pricing
Papaya publishes starting prices, but every plan sends you to a quote:
- Employer of record (EOR). A company that legally employs workers abroad on your behalf through its own entity. Compare employer of record (EOR) services: from $499 per employee a month.
- Contractor of record. A service that engages contractors on your behalf and takes on misclassification risk. Compare employer of record (EOR) services: from $199 per contractor a month.
- Contractor payments: from $5 per contractor a month.
- Payroll Plus (for your own entities): from $29 per employee a month.
- Payments only: $0 platform fees, with FX costs.
For one EOR employee at the starting price, the fee alone is $5,988 a year, before salary, employer taxes and benefits. That is below Deel’s $7,188 at $599 a month, but Papaya’s number can rise by country. Ask for the quote to show setup fees, any deposit, FX markup and termination costs.
How Papaya Global works
With EOR, Papaya or a partner becomes the legal employer in a country where you have no company, runs payroll and benefits, and handles local contracts and immigration. With Payroll Plus, you keep your own local entities and Papaya runs payroll for them. The contractor plans handle invoices and payouts, and Contractor of Record takes on classification risk.
All plans sit on Papaya’s payments platform. You fund a wallet in one of 15 currencies (including USD, EUR, GBP, CAD and INR) and Papaya pays workers in local currency in 160+ countries. Workers get a free wallet for their pay.
What customers say about Papaya
Recurring themes across the review sites and complaint records listed above, not individual quotes.
Common praise
- Simple platform that is easy to learn
- Payments that arrive on time, sometimes the same day
- Responsive account teams for larger customers
- Payroll and payments in one place
Common complaints
- Late, failed or wrong payroll payments
- Tax code or calculation errors that take months to fix
- Support mostly by email, with slow replies
- Mobile app that reviewers say is hard to use
Papaya Global complaints and how to avoid problems
About 29% of Papaya’s Trustpilot reviews are one star. The complaints repeat a few themes: late or failed payments, incorrect payroll or tax codes that take months to correct, support handled mostly by email, and a mobile app reviewers find hard to use. Positive reviews mention an easy platform and payments that land on time.
To limit your risk:
- Ask whether Papaya owns its entity in each of your countries or uses a partner.
- Get support hours, response times and a named contact in writing.
- Ask how payroll errors are corrected and who pays any penalties.
- Have each worker check the first two payslips closely.
Is Papaya Global being sold?
Papaya is still operating independently. In January 2026, Israeli outlet Calcalist reported that Papaya was in late-stage talks about a possible sale at a $3.5 billion to $4.5 billion valuation, with reported interest from SAP, Oracle and private equity firms. The same report said 2024 revenue passed $100 million. We found no announced deal as of October 2026. If a sale happens, ask whether your contract, pricing and support terms carry over.
Who should skip Papaya Global
If you need one or two employees abroad, a provider with a flat published fee and no sales call may be faster. If you pay only a few freelancers, a written contract and direct bank transfers may be enough. If you plan to hire many people in one country, compare EOR fees with the cost of opening your own entity, where Papaya’s $29 Payroll Plus plan could still help.
Alternatives to Papaya
-
Better if you want a flat published EOR fee with no sales call and no minimum term.
-
Better if you want an EOR that says it owns all of its entities.
-
Better if you want month-to-month terms and a large self-serve platform.
-
Paying contractors directly
For one or two contractors, a written contract and a bank or money transfer service can cost far less than any platform.
