Our verdict

PeopleLooker works for personal lookups such as finding an old friend, checking a caller or looking yourself up, but it is not a consumer reporting agency, so you can't legally use it to screen tenants, employees or borrowers. It is a legitimate people search site run by PeopleLooker LLC, a sister brand of BeenVerified under The Lifetime Value Co. The main thing to watch is billing: the $1 trial turns into a $26.89 monthly membership after 7 days unless you cancel, so set a reminder. Expect gaps and errors in reports, since PeopleLooker itself says its data is not guaranteed accurate.

PeopleLooker legitimacy and licensing

Yes. PeopleLooker is run by PeopleLooker LLC, 48 West 38th Street, New York, NY, and is part of the same company family as BeenVerified. Its terms name BeenVerified LLC as its parent, and its site says The Lifetime Value Co. has operated since 2007. It compiles public records and data from commercial providers into searchable reports.

It’s legitimate for personal use, but it is not a Consumer reporting agency. A company that assembles reports used for eligibility decisions and must follow FCRA accuracy and dispute rules. Compare background checks under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Using its reports to decide on a job applicant, tenant, loan or insurance policy is prohibited by its terms and can expose you to legal liability. PeopleLooker also states that its data isn’t guaranteed to be accurate, complete or current.

How much PeopleLooker costs

On October 12, 2026, PeopleLooker’s checkout offered a 1-month membership for $26.89 a month or a 3-month membership for $64.53 ($21.51 a month), each with up to 100 reports a month and PDF downloads. If you back out of checkout, it offers a $1 trial for 7 days that then bills $26.89 a month and doesn’t include PDF downloads. PeopleLooker’s separate offers page lists lower promo prices the same day: $23.99 for 1 month, or $19.19 a month on a 3-month plan, each billing the standard monthly rate after the promo term. Start from the offers page if you want the lower price.

You’re charged for a report even if it turns up no criminal record. Viewing teaser results is free, but full reports need a paid plan. PeopleLooker says its offers change and that it sometimes sells individual reports, so check the checkout page before you pay.

What a PeopleLooker report includes

When records are available, reports can show names and aliases, age, current and past addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, relatives and associates, criminal and court records, bankruptcies, liens and judgments, property records, and social or professional profiles. PeopleLooker also offers reverse phone, email, address and username searches and an unclaimed money search.

It searches people in the United States only, and the person you look up isn’t notified. Coverage varies by county and state, so treat any report as a starting point and confirm important facts, especially criminal records, with the court that holds them.

What customers say about PeopleLooker

Recurring themes across the review sites and complaint records listed above, not individual quotes.

Common praise

  • Simple searches by name, phone, email or address, including name variations and states
  • Helpful for finding lost contacts and relatives
  • Company replies to every negative Trustpilot review

Common complaints

  • People finding their own personal information listed and shared
  • Searches that return little useful information
  • Reports that are incomplete or out of date

PeopleLooker complaints and how to avoid them

The BBB lists 74 complaints against PeopleLooker LLC in three years and rates it B. Trustpilot reviews are split: 44% five star and 33% one star. Negative Trustpilot reviews mostly concern searches that turn up little useful information and people upset to find their own data listed and shared. Because every plan renews automatically, billing after the $1 trial is the other thing to watch.

  • Set a reminder for day 6 of the $1 trial and cancel if you don’t need more.
  • Check the billing descriptor on your card statement so you recognize the charge.
  • If a report is wrong, don’t rely on it; confirm with the source agency.
  • Ask for a refund by email right away if you were charged unexpectedly; refunds are case by case.

How to cancel PeopleLooker

You can cancel at any time: log in and go to My Account, Edit Account Information, Cancel My Account; call 1-800-592-7153 from 9am to 5pm Eastern on weekdays; email support; or use the Contact Us form. Online and email requests work around the clock. After you cancel, your access lasts until the end of the term you paid for and the plan won’t renew. Cancelling doesn’t refund charges already made, so request a refund separately if you need one.

How to remove your information from PeopleLooker

PeopleLooker offers a free opt-out through its opt-out page. Find your listing and submit the removal. It warns that other records may still appear if they can’t be matched to the record you removed, so search again later and opt out of any new listings. Because PeopleLooker shares data with BeenVerified, opt out on BeenVerified too.

California residents can also use the state’s free Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP). Since August 1, 2026, registered data brokers must check it at least every 45 days and delete matching records.

The rules that apply

The Fair Credit Reporting Act governs background checks used for jobs, housing, credit and insurance. Those checks must come from a consumer reporting agency, need the person’s permission for employment, and give the person rights to see and dispute the report. PeopleLooker is not covered, which is why it bars those uses. Its terms also require individual arbitration and waive class actions. If you have a billing dispute you can’t resolve, you can complain to the BBB, your state attorney general or the FTC.
