UNREAL Mobile legitimacy and licensing
Yes. UNREAL Mobile launched in 2018 as a brand of FreedomPop and was acquired, along with FreedomPop, by Red Pocket Mobile in June 2019. Red Pocket is a Thousand Oaks, California prepaid carrier with an A+ BBB rating that has sold no-contract service for more than two decades. UNREAL’s own BBB profile in Los Angeles shows an A+ with zero complaints in the last three years, and its site and help center are run on Red Pocket’s systems.
What you are buying is reseller service: UNREAL rents capacity on what it calls the GSMA network, which it says works with AT&T-compatible phones. Before May 2023 it sold T-Mobile-compatible (GSMT) plans, which is why older reviews and some third-party pages still describe it as a T-Mobile brand. Customer reviews are the caution flag. Trustpilot shows a 3.8 from 333 reviews with 46 percent one star, though only four reviews were posted in the last year, so the picture is dated.
UNREAL Mobile plans explained
There are three plans and one unusual feature: taxes and fees are included, so the advertised price is the charge. Mini is $23 a month for 10GB of high-speed data, Midi is $28.25 for 25GB, and Maxi is $37.10 for 50GB plus a separate 10GB hotspot bucket. Paying a year upfront costs $240, $300 or $420, which works out to $20, $25 or $35 a month. All three include unlimited talk and text, Wi-Fi calling, RCS, visual voicemail and 1GB of roaming data in Canada and Mexico (5GB on Maxi) with unlimited roaming calls and texts.
After you use the high-speed allotment, data slows. UNREAL’s plans page does not state the reduced speed, and one-star reviews describe service being cut or throttled, so treat the GB figure as a hard ceiling. On Mini and Midi, hotspot use comes out of the same bucket. International calling is included to 20 countries on every plan according to the plans page; the help center says plans of 12GB and above get 80-plus countries plus a $10 monthly credit, so ask support which applies to Midi before counting on it. Extra roaming data costs $20 for 1GB, $30 for 2GB or $50 for 5GB.
Against the market: Red Pocket, UNREAL’s parent, charges $30 for 50GB on your choice of network but adds taxes; US Mobile’s Unlimited Starter is $25 all-in with unlimited data on its AT&T option. UNREAL is competitive only if you value its roaming and all-in billing.
Coverage, phones and activation
UNREAL’s coverage page checks availability by ZIP code and claims 5G and 4G LTE reaching 99 percent of the country with downloads up to 472 Mbps, which is the host network’s footprint, not a guarantee of speed at your address. As a reseller, UNREAL traffic can be slowed behind the host carrier’s own customers when towers are busy. Bring any unlocked phone compatible with AT&T; excluded devices include locked Tracfone phones, Boost and Virgin branded phones, and phones still under contract or reported lost. eSIM activation is immediate, physical SIMs ship, and you have up to 90 days after ordering to switch and port your number.

UNREAL replied to every 2025 complaint, usually within two weeks, often stating that a charge was reversed or an outage resolved, but did not reply to older ones.
Protect yourself: use the 7-day refund window to test coverage and speeds where you actually live and work. Screenshot the plan terms at purchase, including the international list. Set a reminder before the renewal date and keep your card current, since a failed autopay can drop the line. Keep your old carrier active until the port completes. If billing goes wrong, UNREAL’s BBB profile shows it has a clean complaint record, so a BBB complaint is likely to get a response.
Refunds and cancelling
UNREAL advertises a 7-day risk-free purchase with a 100 percent refund if you change your mind; request it through support within seven days. After that, plans are prepaid and no refund policy is published for unused time, including on annual plans, so buy annual only once you have tested the service on a monthly term. To leave, port your number to a new carrier (your account number and PIN are in the help center) or turn off autopay at unrealmobile.com/my-lines before the next cycle.
The rules that protect you
FCC rules require every mobile plan to carry a broadband consumer label stating price, data allowance, speeds and fees; UNREAL links to Broadband Facts on each plan, and that label is the place to read the post-cap speed it does not print on the plan card. FCC number portability rules let you take your number out even if you owe a balance. Advertising claims such as unlimited are policed by the FTC and by NAD, which in March 2026 told UNREAL’s parent Red Pocket to stop calling capped plans unlimited and to disclose the 512 kbps post-cap speed; UNREAL’s current plans are labeled by GB rather than as unlimited. Billing disputes can go to the FCC Consumer Complaint Center or the BBB.

Skip it if you want the cheapest line: Red Pocket starts at $10, Tello at $5 and US Mobile at $10. Skip it if Verizon or T-Mobile works better where you live, since UNREAL only sells AT&T-compatible coverage. Skip it if you expect weekend support or truly unlimited data. It can make sense for a traveler to Canada and Mexico who wants a flat, tax-inclusive bill and AT&T-compatible coverage, provided they test it inside the 7-day window.
