Don't buy Eargo hearing aids now. Eargo's parent company, LXE Hearing, entered an assignment for the benefit of creditors under California law on July 15, 2026 and is winding down. The online store now redirects to a wind-down notice, the app leaves app stores and loses cloud service on October 22, 2026, support ends the same day, and warranty and repair requests stopped being accepted on September 15. Existing aids should keep amplifying with on-device controls and saved settings.

Eargo, step by step

  1. Update the app to version 9

    Update the Eargo app from the App Store or Google Play before October 22, 2026, and confirm the version under Menu.

  2. Sync your settings

    Open the app while connected to the internet and your hearing aids so your volume, defaults and profiles save for offline use.

  3. Save the guides

    Download the user manuals from eargo.com/guides before October 22; the archive is listed as available until October 30, 2026.

  4. Contact support while you can

    Email [email protected] or call 1-615-299-5632 before October 22 with any setup or technical questions.

  5. File a claim if you're owed money

    Send a Proof of Claim with documents to ABC SPV IX LLC, the assignee, by January 31, 2027, against the specific Eargo entity you bought from.

Is Eargo going out of business?

Yes. On July 15, 2026, LXE Hearing, Inc., Eargo, Inc., Eargo Hearing, Inc., Eargo Screening, LLC and hearX USA, Inc. each entered an assignment for the benefit of creditors under California law and began winding down U.S. operations. An assignee now oversees the companies’ assets and possible sales. LXE Hearing was formed when Eargo merged with hearX, the owner of Lexie Hearing, in 2025, so Lexie and Go Hearing are affected too.

Key dates on Eargo’s notice:

  • September 15, 2026: last day to submit warranty or repair requests.
  • October 22, 2026: app removed from stores, cloud service shut off, and customer support ends.
  • October 30, 2026: online guides listed as available until this date.
  • January 31, 2027: deadline to file a Proof of Claim with the assignee.

What Eargo owners should do now

Eargo says your aids should keep amplifying sound using on-device controls or your last saved profile. To keep app control, update to version 9 before October 22, 2026, then open it while online and connected to your aids so your settings sync for offline use. Older app versions may stop working entirely once cloud service ends.

Download the manuals at eargo.com/guides, write down your serial numbers and keep your receipts. Without warranty service, a lost or broken aid can’t be replaced through Eargo, so plan for a replacement brand. If you notice your hearing getting worse, or you have ear pain, drainage or sudden hearing loss, see a doctor or audiologist.

Eargo refunds and claims

Under the original purchase terms, non-defective products could be returned within 45 days of delivery. Requests after that, or any other refund or payment claim, now go to the assignee: ABC SPV IX LLC, 514 Via de la Valle, Suite 210, Solana Beach, CA 92075, or [email protected], by 5 p.m. Pacific Time on January 31, 2027. Each Eargo company has a separate estate, so file against the entity you bought from, and file separately for each. Filing doesn’t guarantee payment.

If you paid by credit card recently and didn’t get what you paid for, ask your card issuer about a dispute; time limits apply.

Was Eargo legit?

Yes. Eargo was a real hearing aid maker based in San Jose, California, founded in 2015, and the FDA cleared its Eargo 5 and Eargo 6 as self-fitting OTC hearing aids in December 2022. In 2022 Eargo paid about $34.4 million to settle U.S. Justice Department allegations that it put unsupported hearing loss diagnosis codes on claims to the federal employee health plan; Eargo denied the allegations and said they didn’t involve product quality. The BBB rates it A- and it isn’t accredited.

Eargo complaints

Eargo’s 4.0 Trustpilot score comes mostly from older reviews praising the hidden fit and battery life. Complaints center on aids that stopped working or lost battery capacity, expensive out-of-warranty replacements, slower support and difficulty getting refunds. The BBB lists 46 complaints in the last 3 years. With support ending, those problems can no longer be fixed through Eargo.

Replacing Eargo hearing aids

Look for a brand with a long trial and a warranty from a company with ongoing support. Jabra Enhance lists a 100-day trial and a 3-year warranty, and Audicus a 100-day trial and a 2-year warranty. OTC hearing aids are for adults 18 and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. A hearing test from an audiologist tells you whether OTC aids are still right for you.
