Geotab suits fleets that want engine data, EV tools and a large add-on marketplace. It is a legitimate and very large telematics company: founded in 2000 in Oakville, Canada, it says it connects about 6 million vehicles for more than 100,000 customers, including the US federal government, and holds FedRAMP and FIPS 140-3 security credentials. The tradeoff is buying: Geotab doesn't publish prices and sells through more than 700 partners, so your price, contract and support depend on the reseller. The older Base, Regulatory, Pro and ProPlus plans are no longer offered to new customers; you'll be quoted the GO Plan.

Get the terms in writing
Ask for per-vehicle monthly cost, hardware cost, installation, contract length, auto renewal and cancellation rules.
Install the GO device
The GO device plugs into the vehicle's diagnostic port; heavy trucks and older vehicles may need a harness or adapter.
Set up MyGeotab
Configure maps, rules, driver scorecards and maintenance alerts, and add Marketplace apps such as cameras or fuel cards.
Review and renew
Track the renewal date in your reseller contract and give notice in the required window if you plan to switch.
Geotab legitimacy and licensing
Yes. Geotab was founded in 2000 by Neil Cawse in Oakville, Ontario, and says it now has more than 2,700 employees, 700 partners and more than 100,000 customers, including the US federal government. It lists ISO/IEC 27001:2022, SOC 2, FIPS 140-3 and FedRAMP authorizations, and says it was the first Telematics. Technology that sends vehicle location, speed and engine data from the vehicle to software over a cellular network. Compare fleet and vehicle tracking companies company to get FIPS 140-3 validation for the cryptographic module in its GO device.
Geotab’s US entity has no BBB rating because the BBB has too little information, and only 24 people have reviewed it on Trustpilot. Because most customers buy through resellers, check the reseller’s reviews too.
Geotab pricing and plans
Geotab doesn’t post prices. You request a quote and a reseller sets the monthly fee, hardware cost and contract. New customers are now offered the GO Plan, which bundles the former ProPlus features with Active Tracking, EV data, Wi-Fi support and Public Works features. A Base (GO Core) plan covers GPS location, VIN, driver ID and harsh braking. The Regulatory, Pro and ProPlus plans are legacy plans that are no longer available.
Wi-Fi hotspot costs extra and works in the US and Canada only. Get at least two reseller quotes and compare the full cost over the contract term, not just the monthly fee.
How Geotab works
A Geotab GO device plugs into each vehicle’s diagnostic port and sends location, engine fault codes, fuel use and driving data such as harsh braking to the MyGeotab web platform. Drivers use the Geotab Drive app, and fleet managers can add cameras, fuel cards, routing and other tools from the Geotab Marketplace. Geotab also sells a Geotab Fleet Card for fuel purchases.

Geotab and Verizon Connect
On October 1, 2025, Geotab bought the commercial operations of Verizon Connect’s telematics business in Australia, the UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Portugal, Poland, the Netherlands and Germany. The deal did not include Verizon Connect’s US business. Former Verizon Connect customers in those countries are being moved to Geotab, and some Trustpilot reviews describe rushed migrations.
Complaints and how to avoid problems
Public reviews are few, but the complaints repeat: little training during switches, a dashboard that loads slowly or is hard to customize, and support that fades after the sale. To protect yourself:
- Ask the reseller who provides support and how to reach them after hours.
- Get the renewal and cancellation terms in writing before you sign.
- Ask for training for your managers and a trial on a few vehicles.
- Confirm what happens to hardware if you cancel.
Who should skip Geotab
If you track one to a few vehicles and only need location, Geotab may be more system than you need, and you’ll still have to go through a reseller for a quote. Fleets that want one vendor for hardware, software and support may prefer Samsara or Motive.
