Install the hardware
Vehicle gateways, dash cams and asset trackers are installed on your vehicles and equipment and activated on your account.
Test within 30 days
Samsara's refund policy lets you return a new purchase for a full refund if you ask in writing within 30 days of shipment and the hardware is like new.
Run the fleet from the dashboard
Managers track vehicles, coach drivers with dash cam video, schedule maintenance and file compliance reports; drivers log hours and inspections in the Samsara Driver app.

Being legitimate does not make every contract a good deal. Most complaints are about support response times and contract terms, not about the company failing to deliver.
How much Samsara costs
Samsara does not publish prices. Its pricing page is a quote form, and the price depends on how many vehicles and assets you have, which hardware you need, such as vehicle gateways, AI dash cams or asset trackers, and which software licenses you buy. Purchases are made on an Order Form for a fixed license term.
Ask the rep to list the hardware cost, the license price per unit, the term length, whether payments are monthly or annual, and what happens at renewal. Samsara’s terms say that on some reseller orders without a Samsara quote, the default term is three years.
What Samsara does
Samsara combines hardware with cloud software. Vehicle gateways send GPS location, engine data and fuel use; the AI Dash Cam and AI Multicam flag risky driving and record video for coaching; and asset gateways and tags track trailers, equipment and refrigerated units. Drivers use the Samsara Driver app for hours of service logs and inspections.
Managers see everything on one dashboard and can connect it to 350+ other tools, such as payroll, maintenance and dispatch software. Licensed hardware is under warranty for as long as you keep the license active.

Samsara complaints and how to avoid them
On Trustpilot and the BBB, the repeat complaints are slow support after the sale, hardware issues that take a long time to fix, AI alerts that flag safe driving, and disputes over contract length, renewals and fees to leave early. Cancelling Samsara and refunds
Samsara’s Master Terms of Service, last updated June 2026, say your license renews automatically unless you notify Samsara in writing at least 30 days before the license expiration date. Samsara may renew it for up to the longer of one year or your previous term, and keep billing on the same schedule.
For new purchases, Samsara offers a full refund if you request it in writing within 30 days of the hardware shipping and return it in new or like-new condition. That window does not cover renewals, extra units of a product you already bought, or purchases after a trial or pilot.
ELD rules and driver privacy
If your drivers must keep hours of service records, the FMCSA requires an electronic logging device that is registered on its ELD.
