Phonak as a hearing aid brand

Phonak is a legitimate, established brand owned by Sonova, a Swiss company with fiscal 2025/26 sales of about $4.33 billion (CHF 3,605.9 million). Its aids are FDA-regulated prescription devices sold through audiologists and hearing aid specialists, and we found no FDA recalls listed for Phonak or Sonova.

Independent lab testing reported by HearingTracker gave the Audéo Sphere Infinio 4.8 out of 5 for speech in quiet and 4.6 for speech in noise. The myPhonak app holds 4.4 stars from more than 123,000 App Store ratings.

The weak spots are price transparency and after-sale support. Phonak does not sell direct or publish prices, so your experience depends heavily on the clinic. Owner complaints on review sites and forums center on charging faults, repeat repairs and Bluetooth drops, and Phonak typically refers problems back to the clinic.

Phonak hearing aid prices in 2026

Phonak does not publish prices. It says cost depends on the technology level, the style, the clinic’s pricing structure and the services bundled with the aids. That is why quotes for the same model can differ by thousands of dollars.

As one reference point, the online provider Soundly lists the Audéo EON Sphere at $4,598 a pair as of October 2026. That price includes fitting and adjustments with a local provider, a 60-day trial, a 4-year warranty and one loss or damage replacement, with optional care packages of $500 or $1,250 a pair for more follow-up visits.

When you compare quotes, ask what each includes: the technology level, the number of follow-up visits, the trial period, the warranty length, loss and damage coverage and the charger. Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids, but some Medicare Advantage plans, private insurers and the VA do, so check your coverage first.

Phonak EON vs. Infinio Ultra vs. Lumity: which Phonak is newest?

EON (August 2026): Phonak’s newest platform, built on a new chip. The lineup is the Audéo EON Sphere, the Audéo EON R and CROS EON R for single-sided hearing loss. Sonova says the EON Sphere is 25% smaller, 20% lighter and uses 37% less power than the previous Sphere, and that EON lasts up to 38 hours per charge.

Infinio and Infinio Ultra: the previous generation, including the Infinio Ultra Sphere and the custom Virto R Infinio. These remain on sale and may be offered at a lower price as EON rolls out.

Lumity, Paradise and Marvel: older platforms still listed, mainly for Naída power aids for severe to profound loss, Sky pediatric aids and custom models. Lyric is a separate extended-wear aid placed deep in the ear canal by a provider.

If a clinic quotes an older platform, ask for the price difference against EON so you can decide whether the newer features are worth it to you.

How to buy Phonak hearing aids and what to ask

Phonak hearing aids are sold through hearing care professionals, and some online services sell Phonak packages with fitting by a local provider. Start with a hearing test. See a doctor first if you have sudden hearing loss, hearing loss in one ear, ear pain, drainage or dizziness, because those can signal a medical problem that a hearing aid will not fix.

Before you pay, get the trial period and return fee in writing, confirm how many follow-up adjustments are included, and ask whether the clinic verifies the fitting with real-ear measurement. If your loss is mild to moderate and you are 18 or older, the FDA allows over-the-counter hearing aids that you can buy without an exam, which can cost much less.

Phonak complaints and how to avoid problems

The most common complaints we found are rechargeable aids that stop charging, devices that need repeat repairs, Bluetooth or app connections that drop, and frustration when Phonak sends owners back to their clinic. Phonak’s Trustpilot page (the Danish phonak.dk profile) averages 1.5 out of 5 from 155 reviews, though few satisfied owners review a manufacturer they never bought from directly.

To protect yourself, buy from a clinic that will handle warranty claims for you, get the warranty length and loss and damage terms in writing, and test charging and phone pairing several times during the trial. If a problem repeats, ask for a replacement unit rather than another repair, and use the trial period to return aids that never work well for you.

Phonak trial periods, returns and warranty

Phonak does not set one return or warranty policy for U.S. buyers; the seller does. Phonak’s own cost page tells you to ask whether the clinic offers a trial and whether the warranty covers parts and labor. Soundly lists a 60-day trial and a 4-year warranty with one loss or damage replacement on EON Sphere. For Lyric, Phonak says buyers in California, Minnesota, New York, New Mexico and Vermont get a 45-day trial.

Clinics may keep a fitting or restocking fee when you return aids, so ask for the refund amount in dollars before you pay. HearingTracker notes that Phonak’s warranty does not cover damage from water immersion.

Who should skip Phonak

Look elsewhere if your loss is mild to moderate and you want the lowest price, since FDA-regulated over-the-counter aids cost far less and need no exam. Phonak also may not suit you if you want one published price, or if no clinic near you offers good follow-up care, because a well-fitted mid-level aid usually beats a poorly fitted premium one.

If you swim or work in wet conditions, note that current Phonak aids are water resistant, not waterproof.
